Oppo finally shows us the N3′s rotating camera

October’s a month that’s shaping up to be defined by a few high-profile launches: we’ve got Apple’s presumed iPad event later this week, and rumors continue to suggest that Google’s announcing at least some new Nexus hardware before October’s out. And while those may be the most headline-grabbing mobile products, others are set to make their debut as well, and right at the end of the month Oppo plans to introduce the world to its N3 flagship. Well, “introduce” may not be quite the right word, considering the extent to which the manufacturer has been teasing the phone’s launch these past several weeks, prematurely revealing all sorts of details. One thing we had yet to see confirmed, though, was what Oppo had in store for the N3′s camera, following the innovative rotating design on last year’s N1. Today even that cat gets let out of the bag, as Oppo publishes the pic you see above.
The “it’s your turn” copy accompanying this pic (at least in the English-language version on Twitter – the higher-res copy above is from Weibo) should help convince you that we’ve got another N1-style swivel design here (as if another convertible camera was ever up for debate), and formalizes how the rotating camera will appear: it’s very much in the vein of the first-gen model, and not a side-mounted design as we had seen suggested in a fan render.
Oddly, the camera component is decked out in a very Samsung-like faux leather finish, while the rest of the handset’s back appears smooth. We know that Oppo is planning to release the N3 in two different constructions, made from varying types of metal, and while we’d assume that this look will be the same for both, that’s hardly a certainty.
With Oppo’s launch event scheduled for October 29, we’ve got just over two weeks to go before the N3′s full story is revealed.
